We start with inspiration—anything from a phrase to a memory to a mood (to the palm tree in the window if inspiration’s running dry). From there, you’ll spend a few minutes crafting a short story, which becomes the emotional blueprint for your song. Together, we’ll shape that story into a chorus—your thesis statement—then build verses that give it depth and movement. Whether you’re a seasoned lyricist or a total beginner, the process is tailored to meet you where you are and help you bring your ideas to life.
Depending on your experience, you or I will play piano while we explore the emotional tonality of your story. You’ll hum over chord changes, feel out melodies, and shape lyrics that fit both rhythm and intention. Our focus isn’t perfection; it’s flow and discovery. We’ll write without pressure, knowing we’ll polish later. Once we have the bones of a song, we’ll zoom out and look for ways to creatively hook the listener—whether through a catchy melody, an unexpected lyric twist, or a rhythmic shift that grabs attention.
If you’re a voice student stepping into songwriting, we can often craft your first full song in just a couple of months. And if you’re starting from scratch, we’ll guide you from your first lyric to a song that sounds like something real—something you—in about six months. It’s a creative journey you’ll shape on your own terms—one that helps you find your voice, define your sound, and most importantly, discover the aura that makes your music unmistakably yours.
